Comfortable, Washable, Stylishly Sustainable.
I’m not a fan of plastic in fashion. In general, I prefer natural materials, but Rothy’s doesn’t make clothes; they make shoes and bags, which makes sense given the plastic. Still not convinced to give them a try? Their products are made from recycled materials, including ocean-bound marine plastics and recycled bottles. I have never thrown myself in front of a bulldozer, but I do try to make daily decisions that help not hurt the Earth. So I decided to try Rothy’s and one purchase turned into three.
The Rothy’s brand claims that their products are comfortable, washable, shockingly durable, and stylishly sustainable. I ordered their Vanity Set first, then The Weekender and finally the Ballet Flats. I paid full price for all of the items I purchased and they definately MET my expectations. I used all of the items for more than two years and the picture above is after all of that use which included multiple trips to London.
The Rothy’s shoes took a few tries to get the right size. I am consistently a size 9.5M in women’s shoes. I ordered the 9.5, but returned it for the 9 which can pinch my toes slightly when I’ve been on my feet all day. I will never sacrifice comfort for style so they weren’t tight enough to bother me. The In love Insole™ an innovative insole that is as cushioned and comfortable as they claim. The unique knit material resists stains, but if you do need to wash them it’s super easy and they still look great.
The Weekender and Vanity Set are equally stylish and durable. I’ve never had a toiletry set or makeup bag look this good for this long. My only complaint is that The Weekender doesn’t have a strap to hook onto my wheeling suitcase, but that hasn’t stopped me from grabbing for this bag again and again. It always looks clean and the shape makes it easy to stay organized and the shoulder strap doesn’t slip.
What about implied expectations? Those things they don’t say, but they lead you to believe by how they market their brand. Well, creating a fashion-forward, durable knit out of recyled plastic tells me they are technologically saavy. So I went into the purchase with that expectation and they delivered. Their website was easy super easy to navigate with lot’s of detailed photos and videos. All of my orders arrived within 5-8 days, and returns were easy.
Last but not least they are highly transparent about their materials. They back up their recycled material claims with a Recycled Content Certification. This brand MET my expectation. They make some pretty bold claims, but lived up to them.
