What I Expected (the promise)

Rothy’s promises products that are comfortable, washable, shockingly durable, and stylishly sustainable—made from recycled materials, including recycled bottles and ocean-bound plastic. I’m not a fan of plastic in fashion, but shoes and bags are one place where recycled materials can make real sense if the product truly lasts. I’ve never thrown myself in front of a bulldozer, but I do try to make daily choices that help the environment—so I gave Rothy’s a shot.

My Experience (real life)

I bought three items—The Vanity Set, The Weekender, and The Ballet Flats—all full price. I used all of them regularly across 2024 and 2025, including multiple trips to London, and they held up.

Ballet Flats: Sizing took a couple tries. I’m usually a 9.5M. The 9.5 didn’t work for me and I exchanged for a 9. The 9 can pinch slightly after a long day on my feet, but not enough to outweigh the overall comfort. The In Love Insole™ is genuinely cushioned, and the knit material resists stains better than you’d expect. Washing is easy, and they still look great afterward.

Weekender + Vanity Set: These are the quiet overachievers. I’ve never had a toiletry set or makeup bag look this good for this long. The Weekender stays clean-looking, holds its shape, and makes it easy to stay organized. The shoulder strap doesn’t slip (small detail, big win). My only complaint: it doesn’t have a sleeve/strap to slide over a rolling suitcase handle.

Implied Expectations (what I was led to believe)

A fashion-forward knit made from recycled plastic signals a brand that’s technologically savvy and operationally tight. I expected a smooth online experience—and they delivered. The website is easy to navigate with detailed photos and videos, my orders arrived in about 5–8 days, and returns were straightforward. They’re also highly transparent about their materials, backing recycled-content claims with a Recycled Content Certification.

Bottom Line (who will love these)

Rothy’s makes bold claims, and based on real use over time, they delivered. If you want polished, washable staples that hold up through travel and still look sharp after heavy use, this is a strong buy. If you’re extremely sensitive to toe pinch or need all-day comfort with zero compromise, focus on sizing and be realistic about whether a ballet flat is the right silhouette for your feet.
