Iota’s Supervitamin Body Wash
Iota positions itself as a health-first bodycare focused on balancing your skin microbiome. Their award-winning Supervitamin + Soothing Body Wash claims to soothe dry, itchy, and uncomfortable skin. I have incredibly sensitive skin that is often dry and itchy, so I decided to give this body wash a try.
It’s formulated with Chamomile, Reishi Mushroom, and Indian Gooseberry, and has microbiome-balancing pre- & postbiotics that boost skin wellness. pH 5.0-5.5. I don’t know much about those ingredients, but their website educates you. The container is metal, and the company has a Plastic Negative certification listed on their website footer. The bottle is not very big, and there are no refills available, so it’s probably not a good option for a busy family.
If I even walk past a mall candle store, I feel nauseous. I don’t like artificial fragrances, but I don’t necessarily trust that a fragrance labeled natural is indeed natural, so I always look at the ingredient list. I’m not a scientist, nor did I test whether what was in the bottle matches what was listed in the ingredients, but this is what I can tell you. It doesn’t have fragrance. It has plant extracts and oils, which give it a clean scent. Some of their products list fragrance as an ingredient, but this one does not.
What about implied expectations? Those things they don’t say, but you expect anyway. The source of the primary ingredients is provided, and the entire website has photos of the ingredients in their natural state, so you might believe that every ingredient is natural. Sadly, there are a few—albeit mild and safe—synthetic ingredients. This seems a bit like a branding miss.
This is my most difficult review to date. They did live up to their explicit promises, but I think they could benefit from explaining the synthetic ingredients. This product didn’t have a fragrance, but I will be trying their Oishii Berry Body Wash, so I’ll keep you posted. The Supervitamin + Soothing Body Wash didn’t irritate my sensitive skin or delicate lady parts, but I have no way of knowing if my skin health has improved. I’m 52, so things are going downhill rapidly. People do compliment me on my skin, but it’s probably because of a lifetime of choices, not a few months of body wash.
They claim skin health and I think in that regard the experience did meet the expectation. Healthy skin is 4.7-5.5, the listed pH for this product is 5-5.5. All the ingredients are considered safe and good for the skin. The scent was clean, the packaging was nice, and I love that they are trying to avoid plastic. It looks like this brand will need a little more research. I’ll let you know what I think after I try the Oishii Berry Body Wash. I’m a sucker for strawberry anything.
